On Tuesday Cisco announced that it will be closing all existing aspects of its consumer businesses which includes its Flip video camera. Back in 2009 Cisco purchased Flip maker Pure Digital for $590 million and now they have decided to give it all up. In a statement, Cisco says they will “close down the Flip business and support current FlipShare customers and partners with a transition plan.”
As a reminder and means of farewell, the Cisco Flip Camcorder a WiFi enabled camcorder that enables the user to record HD videos and instantly upload to social networking sites such as Facebook and Youtube. This was one of the devices that I really wanted so I could have instant access to Youtube to upload videos on the go but unfortunately at $200 per unit, I couldn’t afford it at the time. For who wants to keep the device as a form of reminder, it is presently available on Amazon for a price of $141 per unit.
