On January 4th Warner Bros announced that they will be going exclusively with blu-ray, to contribute to the dead of the beloved HD DVD. Today public broadcaster NHK in Japan reported that Toshiba will scrap production of HD DVD players and recorders and that they also will take other steps to exit the business of HD DVD.

The Sony DVD Direct MC5 quickly and easily transfers your HD video and photos to a DVD, without requiring you to boot up your system
Unlike past versions, though, the MC5 won’t talk to a computer - despite having both USB and FireWire ports. The device doesn’t create Blu-ray or HD DVD discs, but rather DVDs in AVCHD format, which is basically H.264/MPEG-4 video (still high definition, but the discs hold only 95 minutes of video). Presently going at a price of $230 on the US market.

Envision introduces the new G416 24-inch LCD monitor. The Envision G416 features a resolution of 1900×1200, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 400cd/m2 brightness, a 160-degree viewing angle. It supports both DVI and VGA inputs.

Is Blu-ray the same thing as HD-DVD?
No, HD-DVD (previously known as AOD) is the name of a competing next-generation optical disc format developed by Toshiba and NEC. The format is quite different from Blu-ray, but also relies heavily on blue-laser technology to achieve a higher storage capacity. The format is being developed within the DVD Forum as a possible successor to the current DVD technology.
